Welcome to Humpday, fellow Houston Astros fans! Are you ready for your Wednesday Boil? We’ve got some exciting news and updates for you today, so buckle up and let’s get into it!
First up, we have some unfortunate news. Due to some nasty weather, Thursday’s Astros game against the Tigers has been moved to Friday. But don’t worry, we’ll still be able to cheer on our boys soon enough.
In more positive news, Astros pitcher Lance McCullers is ahead of schedule in his recovery. We can’t wait to see him back on the mound soon, dominating hitters as usual.
If you’re feeling charitable, Astros Alex Bregman and A.J. Hinch are asking fans to help out former Astros coach Rich Dauer, who suffered a stroke last year. Let’s show our support for a member of the Astros family in need!
And let’s give a round of applause to Yordan Alvarez. His beautiful throw to get the Tigers’ Matt Vierling out at home plate is a thing of beauty. Alvarez’s talent on the field is always a joy to watch.
In other AL West news, ESPN’s Jeff Passan thinks it’s too early to worry about the Mariners, and the Angels’ Shohei Ohtani paid tribute to Ichiro Suzuki before a recent game.
Let’s not forget the Rangers, either. Despite some struggles, Jacob deGrom is aiming for a better performance against the Orioles, and Rangers beat reporter Josh Smith is doing well after getting hospitalized by a wild pitch.
And of course, we have some MLB news to share. Braves prospect Dylan Dodd won over fans with his winning MLB debut, and Manny Machado was the first to be ejected for arguing a pitch timer violation. And if you’re a fan of baseball’s quiet helpers, make sure to check out USA Today’s article on the new rules around batboys.
Lastly, today we wish a happy birthday to former Astros pitcher Brandon Backe. While his career had its ups and downs, Astros fans will always remember his incredible performance in Game Five of the 2004 NLCS. He threw eight shutout, one-hit innings to beat the St. Louis Cardinals 3-0.
That’s all for now, folks. Thanks for checking in and staying up to date with your Houston Astros!
