The start of Spring Training is upon us, and the Houston Astros have plenty of storylines to follow as they gear up for the long MLB season ahead. From the return of Forrest Whitley to the uncertain future of José Urquidy, the Astros have a lot to look forward to as they look to defend their World Series title. In this blog post, we’ll take a look at the five most intriguing storylines to keep an eye on this Spring Training.

First, we have Forrest Whitley, the Astros’ injury-plagued but promising prospect. After missing the past few seasons due to various injuries, Whitley is finally healthy and ready for Spring Training. Armed with an overpowering fastball, Whitley will be looking to prove himself this season and make an impression on the Astros’ coaching staff.

Next, we have Hunter Brown, another one of the Astros’ prized arms. After an impressive debut season and a strong postseason performance, Brown needs to find the right spot for himself in the Astros’ rotation. With the current rotation already full, it looks like Brown will start the season in Triple-A, but an eventual call-up seems inevitable.

Third, we have José Urquidy, who has been the subject of trade rumors in the past. As the Astros’ new GM, Dana Brown, will have to decide whether now is the right time to trade Urquidy. Despite his strong season, trading Urquidy could weaken the Astros’ pitching depth and open up a rotation spot for Hunter Brown.

Fourth, we have Jeremy Peña, who is coming off a memorable debut season. After struggling heavily between June and August, Peña finished the season strong and was named both the ALCS and the World Series MVP. Will he find consistency and jump to the next level? We’ll have to wait and see.

Finally, we have José Abreu, the Astros’ new addition. After spending his entire career with the White Sox, Abreu is now in Houston, where he’ll form an incredible Cuban duo with powerful Yordan Álvarez. Will Abreu find his power again and keep developing as an excellent hitter? Those are important questions around Abreu’s game.

With Spring Training just around the corner, the Houston Astros have plenty of storylines to look forward to. From the return of Forrest Whitley to the uncertain future of José Urquidy, the Astros have a lot to look forward to as they look to defend their World Series title. Keep an eye on these five storylines as the Astros gear up for the long MLB season ahead.
