Josh Ferro’s remarkable story of chasing his dreams is a reminder of how opportunities can arrive from unexpected places. Had he not checked his spam folder, he may have missed out on an incredible journey that has now led him to a signing with the Houston Astros. Ferro’s love for baseball and desire to play at the highest level led him to audition for ‘The Tryout’ – a reality show that led to a preliminary tryout and eventually being picked as one of the 18 final contestants flown to Tampa. Though he finished in second place, his performance caught the attention of Astros advisor, Enos Cabell, who recommended him for a workout with the team. The rest, as they say, is history.

After years of coaching, catching lessons and substitute teaching, Ferro was finally given his big break. He met with Astros scout, Steve Payne, and proved his worth. He received a phone call from Derrick Fong a month later informing him of his signing. For Ferro, this was a moment of pure joy, and the fact that his father was there to witness it with tears in his eyes was a memory he would cherish forever.

Today, as he wakes up at 5:30 am to report to Minor League camp in West Palm Beach, he remains as devoted as ever to baseball. From catching bullpens to preparing for games, Ferro is ready to put in the hard work that awaits him. He says he’ll start the season in Rookie ball, but who knows? As Reggie Jackson and Jose Altuve come into view, the sky’s the limit for this young prospect.

At the end of the day, it is Ferro’s story that is the real triumph here. It’s about working hard towards your goals, never giving up, and always believing in yourself. So, for all those young kids out there who are dreaming of making it big, take a lesson from Josh Ferro – you never know where an opportunity may come from, and it is your hard work that will take you to the top eventually.
